dyson…you make cool gizmos…

Dyson Airblade…the hand dryer of the future!  I’ve seen this rad dryer a few times in public bathrooms and it always amazes me how ultra cool it is. Famous for their Rachet and Clank-like vacuums, these guys know how to manipulate air.

The concept of this hand dryer is so different from others.  It doesn’t use heated air but instead two super intense jets of cool air to push the water off your hands, much like the dryers at automatic car washes.

The two sheets of air are about the width of an eyelash and the air apparently travels over 640km/h.  You stick your hands in which triggers the air to flow and you just pull them back out again letting the air essentially scrape the water off your hands.  It even has a built in hepa filter so it acts like a mini filter for the public bathroom every time someone uses it.

Dry hands in less than 12 seconds without heat.  I may have stuck my hands in there a few more times for fun.

It even had instructions…

These things are neat, but why does everyone think that Dyson invented it? This is an obvious copy of Mitsubishi’s Jet Towel, which has been around in Japan for at least a decade. At least they ditched the paper towels, so they’re saving trees, but you’d at least think they’d give credit where credit is due.

This thing is cool! I always dry my hands about 12 times just for fun every time I find one =) I do kind of wonder how much power it draws to do it’s job though (from the more eco-friendly than paper towels or other dryers standpoint).
