hot cocoa made from scratch…

12 Jul

So it’s the summer…doesn’t mean you can’t have homemade hot cocoa!  Making cocoa is actually super easy and since we didn’t have any hot chocolate mix in the house, I made my own and added an extra flavour…peanut butter chips!

Here’s the recipe!

What you need! (for a big ol’ mug or for 2 smaller cups)
16 oz milk
2 heaping tbsps cocoa
15-20 peanut butter chips
1 tbsp brown sugar
pinch of salt

What to do!

1.  Combine the dry stuff!  Stir together the cocoa, sugar and salt.

2.  Heat up your milk!  Whether you do it in the microwave or on the stove, heat up the milk until it’s nice and steamy.  Add a few tablespoons to your cup and stir up the cocoa mixture until smooth.  This is easier than just dumping in all the milk at once!

3.  Add your chips and stir them in until they melt.  Add the heated milk in slowly until everything is well mixed…enjoy!  Next time, try adding a little bit of cayenne or chili powder for an extra kick!  Or cinnamon or nutmeg!

Oooh, PB chips! I hadn’t thought of that 😀

I also like to use my blender to whip up vanilla ice cream, a bit of agave nectar and cocoa powder for a chocolate shake 🙂
