YOU must buy these japanese buns….Kei’s Bakery!

8 Jun

How did I not know this bakery existed until now?!?!?  I’ve walked passed Kei’s Bakery and never knew what exists inside.  If you know me, you’ll know that I already love chinese buns filled with a variety of meats and the sweet coconut kind that is so buttery it coats your mouth with deliciousness.

This adorable Japanese bakery is run by a husband/wife duo with their new baby sitting on a highchair at the threshold of the kitchen and front counter.  Super polite, extremely modest and awesomely chatty, the husband who handles the front counter is patient, efficient and willing to tell you everything about all the buns.

I ended up buying a half dozen, only because the buns were so unique looking, they had to be tasty too right?  Almost every bun is in a different shape.  Yes, there are only four in the image above because two of them didn’t make it to the house on the walk home.

The flavours:  Curry Tuna (bottom left with nori strip), Matcha Red Bean  (top left green one), Mt. Matcha (flower green one), Banana (banana-shaped one duh!).

The curry tuna was filled to the brim with delicious filling.  The nori on the outside was soft and added a classic sushi flavour to the bun.  The matcha red bean had a green tea cookie top with a filling of red bean.  The aroma was amazing and the bun was not over sweet.

Mt. Matcha from what I gather is one of their most popular buns.  This little guy is a pretty flower shape with the same matcha cookie top as the red bean one.  Inside you’ll find a smooth green tea custard that is absolutely delectable.  No wonder it’s their most popular, I could eat a dozen of these at once.

The last was definitely a close runner up to the Mt. Matcha.  This banana treat has half of banana inside with a caramel custard inside.  Oh my word, I love real banana desserts and this fit the bill perfectly.

The great thing about these buns is that they range from $2.00 – $2.25 each so you can buy a bunch for snacks and lunch and not break the bank.  You can tell this couple loves what they do and they have so much pride in their voices when they talk about their product that you can’t help but love them.

Go visit!
